*actual* adventure in the snow

We went cross country skiing yesterday, in a place called Horseshoe Valley, about an hour north of Toronto. Me and Mark and Megan went, and we left graham behind in his mates house in Barrie cos he didnt want to go. We just hired a car for the day and drove up - seriously car hire is so cheap here, ours was $30can for 24 hours, sure why would you be getting buses here there and everywhere.

My shoulders and thighs are really sore today, it is some workout and I was only on beginner trails! It was my first time ever on a pair of skis though so i dont think i did too bad. First we did a 3.8km very gentle gradients beginners West trail, that took us about 50 minutes (recommended time 30 mins!) but sure whats the rush. We were nearly down to tee shirts by the end of that it was soooo warm, well we were anyway. Then after a spot of lon, we went to do a mere 1.5km North trail, just to warm up like. Well we encountered hills so we did. Small ones, but hills nonetheless. the downhill part wasnt really the problem, but speaking for myself i could not for the life of me make a decent stab at getting uphill. You have to do some mad feet in a v-shape and 'walk up' but sure i was standing one ski on the other, i was sliding backwards, all sorts. mark and megan showed me up there. I fell a good bit too, have to say though, Mark is a spectacular faller, maybe its to do with the distance he has to fall but he always lands well. He got loadsa snow in his knickers.

Then feeling brave (?) we went to another trail, the 3.5 South Farm loop trail...we werent sure if it was beginner or intermediate. I think intermediate, I like to think so, cos I had to give up about a km in and turn around. There was a long steep incline and i just couldnt make any headway at all. So I turned back, and then went and did the 1st trail again, just to make me feel better about giving up on the other one. So in fairness we all covered about 10km's each so we're allowed be a bit sore today i think.

Then we called back to pick graham up, and we watched the most disgusting 3 short films i have EVER seen by Tenacious D. That is 10 minutes of my life i'm never getting back. I ate Reese peanut butter cup cereal afterward too, it is like frosties cubed for the badness-for-you-factor. I think its breakfast for stoners.

I think I might have another bath now.
