do ducks get cold bums?

JILL
thank god its 2005. far too much crap stuff happened in 2004. im not a superstitiousy kinda person at all, ever, and i know that years are artificial constructs but this time, im waved goodbye and opened the balcony door and stood outside listening to the cheering of all the people in the street that we couldnt see. (i'd drunk a few vodka's too so it was cool i wasnt all maudlin or anything)

I saw pictures of fireworks coming out of the CN Tower for the millenium, but there was none of that, which was a pity. must be a bit of a hassle to tie rockets on the side of it i suppose. We can see the CN Tower really well from the balcony, and when your lying in bed. Its a good barometer. Well, i wake up in the morning, and its either there or its not, depending on cloudiness. So i guess its a crap barometer really, unless you're only concerned with clouds. And when i wake up sure i can't see a feckin thing anyway till i find my glasses.

Couldnt use my glasses this morning, there was a weeeny little screw missing, the lens has fallen out on the right and i had a total freako till we found it '"i dont have €500 for new glasses" and all this. 2 things came in handy - my mini maglite that mark bought me in a fit of macgyer-ness, and the leatherman tool that steve bought mark in a fit of pre-canadian departure manliness.

i changed my chat icon to this today: ah shite, we've to set something else up to be able to put pictures up. that'll be tomorrows task... I'm going to brush my teeth now, its the only thing that puts an end to my eating.

walked down to the lakeshore this evening, after a 6 hour Kath & Kim marathon http://www.abc.net.au/kathandkim/default.htm
We ate nachos and icecream and reisen chocolate chews and stared at the tv for almost the entire day. It was time to leave. Our first time seeing the lake since we got here - apart from flying over it and from Le Tour CN. Not much to see but inky black water and ice floating. And there were ducks on the ice. Do ducks get cold bums? To think, i used to feel sorry for the swans in the canal at Portobello, sure they don't know they're born.

in the interests of science, chocolatology i've sampled a hersheys milk (yeah right) choc bar with me tea just now, and well, its no dairy milk.

Sorry, I got lost there, I didn't realise you'd posted as well Jillo.
I reckon ducks are freezing half the time, although when you eat them the meat can be quite fatty so maybe they have some kind of internal insulation system.
What are your new year resolutions?
I'm learning a poem and a recipe every month (have to tell as many people as possible so that I stick to it)
Happy 2005!
