Clive Owen squared

watched Croupier last night, and King Arthur tonight (Director's Cut god help us).

What a difference. Croupier is amazing, the words of Stephanie McBride came flooding back to me (Film Studies lecturer in DCU), it's a film noir pastiche heist jobbie, and it works so well. I can't believe it's taken me this long to see this film. And Colin from Press Gang is in it too, which made me mucho happy. That was the best show ever when I was about 10 and wanted to be a journalist. Coincidence? I don't think so.

And then King Arthur. Sitting through just 2hrs20mins just so I can pick out a couple of names in the credits. Hammy is not the word. I don't think i've talked so much during a film since I was 6. And I made up lyrics to the extra dramatic music during the epic riding (both types)/dying/fighting bits. I'd say I really enhanced Mark's enjoyment of the film with that. Good job we're not paying for DVD rental these days.

Now, I'm off to find out what Dexter Fletcher is at.

Bonne nuit mes amis.

I concur but Clive Owen is *smart* so King Arthur muted is worth it :)

I reckon King Arthur (we saw directors cut too) is possibly the most boring film I have EVER seen.
Have not seen Croupier, so will have to get that out

Croupier is very good alright, not watching King Arthur after that review. Is it Kiera or Natalie that's in it?

i note Ray Winstone is in King Arthur - i may just have to see it - my love for this man knows no bounds.

Keira = not ride -> King Arthur
Natalie = ride -> Closer

scientific eh?

its not the worst. for example in the realm of historical fictional films, Alexander is far worse.

jill said...

oh yes and Ioan Gruffudd (sp?) also =ride.

mmm. armour.

aye, ray winston is great in everything, including this. king aurthur wasn't bad, it just wasn't that special. they approached the story in an interesting way though.

i think for the next 10 years, any film like this is going to be compared unfavourably to LOTR.

damo, you seen 'Nil By Mouth'?

yeah, i've seen Nil By Mouth, that was my intro to Winstone - powerful film. then i saw him in Sexy Beast - the man can act.

clive owen is arthur, ioan gruffudd is lancelot (lance - a - lot, horn - blower, wheh heh heh!), kiera no boobs knightley is guinevere, ray winstone is another knight who refers to himself in the 1st person a lot but i could never catch his name cos he just roars it.

Tsk. what am i, imdb?

is it obvious when mark or I are commenting which one of us it is?
