Oooo I slept wellish last night. My muscles were all pulled and stretched and gummy and wobbly and happy that I had brought them to the nice pilates woman. It wasn't the perfect comfy in your own body sleep of yore, but it was an improvement on the previous 16 nights. I really enjoyed this class, so I've paid up for the rest of the term. It felt good, to stretch out and to challenge myself knowing that it wasn't going to hurt me gammy back today. Well, hoping. My obliques and thighs are a bit sore, but my back is no worse at all so we're onto a winner here.

I heart Pilates

lordy - i was beginning to think you had forgotten all about us little people in blogland.
glad to hear your back is doing ok.
you coming with to Ye Olde Kings Town tomorrow?
same as last time - if there's room, and if not leaving too early.
Glad to hear that it seems to be working. And given that Pilates is the exercise of the stars, I'm sure there will be hundreds of other benefits that make you star-like
Hmm, I did an 8 week course in Pilates a few years ago (when it was _really_ trendy obviously) and never felt a single ache the whole time. The instructor must have been doing something wrong!!
well i've joined a beginners class 10 weeks into a 16 week term. there was no downtime for the whole hour it was presumed you knew everything. Didn't have too much probs following. She was very good at reminding you all the time to keep the relevant bits n pieces pulled in or relaxed so you were deffo working the right muscles at the right time. Maybe that would explain it?
sure i've a rock boyfriend and a trendy exercise habit. I'll be upgrading to jake gyllenhaal soon so...
the problem I find with these trendy exercises (yoga/pilates) is that I'm far to highly strung to do them. I tried yoga with a really good teacher, but just couldn't relax enough. Give me old-fashioned body pump and body combat any day
I didn't enjoy yoga at all though. Except for the falling asleep bit which I'm not sure was part of the class. But there are many types of yoga so obviously I'm not discounting its benefits or anything, but I couldn't get into any of the classes I did.
I would say pilates would be a very good supplement to cardio. And I do want to deffo go back to the gym next week too. Low impact cross trainer I reckon should do me okay. (with the new Harry Potter propped up there!)
Reckon things like 'body combat' are trendier than yoga or pilates with a name like that! Or spinning, now thats trendy. Didn't like that either. Ride a bike for fecks sake...
Yes, pilates! I did it 3x's a week for 20 mins a time, using Windsor, and had a total shape shift- just doing it to strengthen back and stomach muscles and what should appear but a smaller, shaplier butt and the longer leaner thighs. I had to get new pants, uhh I means trousers :) Woohoo, shopping!
Hurrah! I will give Pilates a lash at some stage now too. Jillo Ashtanga (?) yoga is a bit of craic, less of the relaxing and more physical.
Another benefit of pilates is that its very good for women to do pre-pregnancy....the excercises predominantly concentrate on the lower lower abs and vertebrae....preparing the body for the onslaught of pregnancy. You can continue during pregnancy with an amended version of the class again strengthing lower abs, back and kidney functions (blush). I actually trained as an instructor for it but I was never any good especially as I used to do a seal impression during one of the exercises (you'll know the one Jill, where you lie on your stomach, arms along your body, lift your head, legs and arms, and make a flapping movement with your arms and legs, like your trying to clap behind your back), I used to always start "barking" like a seal and then break into peals of laughter.
My italian pilates teacher didnt think it was so funny.
Margo.
well i won't start barking during my second class. i might wait a few weeks for that!
