...mother of jaysus, some advice please.

So anyway, some of you may know that I did and interview with an e-learning company at the end of June and was told by them that I'd hear back from them on the 11th regarding the position. On the 12th I called to see what they had thought of me. Turns out they liked me but they wouldn't be taking me on for a month at least. Bummer, but hey! They liked me! I'm great! So back I trudge to my $10/hour boring as fuck filing job, kinda miffed. Then, just before I get on the subway on Wednesday, the dude from said company calls me about a part-time (30 hrs/week) position starting on Monday and he wants me to come in on Friday to meet the company head to talk hours and rates. Great! So I call the agency and explain that I have to leave work early on Friday because I have to go to this company. Girl at the agency says "great", but that if I can't commit to the filing job she'd have to throw somebody else in there. Understandable. I have to be honest with this agency as they are the only ones who have gotten be anything decent since I got here and if I piss them off I'll be screwed for temp work.

So in I go to meet the people and they are all very laid back (The company head is in shorts and a tank-top and looks like he hasn't met a razor since '89). We're chatting about what I've done and what I'm looking to do and I start thinking 'didn't I do this with the guy on your right two weeks ago?' There are no technical questions but it's certainly not what I thought it was going to be. Rates are mentioned and then the guy starts going on about how I shouldn't expect to make a living from them and they can't guarantee me anything while all the time referring to the fact that they are about to get really busy and they need help. They said they want me in for an orientation 'day' next week, not Monday, and we'll take it from there.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

The guy said on the phone that I was to come in to discuss hours and rates! Would you guys put up with this vagueness? Am I wasting my time? The company is small and I'd say it would be good to work in. It's Flash and XML based stuff that I know I can do, but what price sanity when I could just be crazy and filing? I'm fairly broke, close to breadline. Jill is set up at her place so we won't starve and I've no issue with being a kept man to a point, but should I just cop on and forget this e-learning crowd?. (By the way, I just saw where Jill works, very very cool.)

I reckon give it 1 week. If they actually have work then it might turn out to be quite good. If after a week, they haven't given you anything/hardly any work, then forget it and go back to the world of temping.
The problem is - are they about to get really busy next week or next month. I'd say, give it a week or 2

What the fuck is right. I would be inclined to check it out further but they do seem to be messing you around. Would it make any difference if you explained your situation to them and asked them to be a little more clear?
