Advice please:
Back is no better than 10 days ago. I am up during the night every night. Ma told me get deep heat and sleep on the floor. We have wooden floors. So 2 nights ago I started on the floor and moved to the bed halfway through the night. Cos bits of you get sore from sleeping on hard floors, that waylaid the sore muscles a bit though. Then last night I started in bed and moved to the floor halfway through the night cos I couldn't sleep, and this morning it hurts as much as it did a week ago.
So, if I'm not better now than I was just after la grand tumble, when will I be better?! Its not improving. Ibuprofen is making no difference.
And Mark thinks it funny to tell me to get off the bed like I'm a cat or dog. He's mean sometimes. I probably taught him that.
EDIT
to continue what i'm sure must be the fascinating account of a not very serious back injury: i've just gone for a good swim. lets see how i'm doing tomorrow after that.
and oh yeah, our whole apartment smells of the deep heat stuff. it is a very small apt though.

Ooh Jill you're going to have to get it checked out again (obviously Katherine). Maybe you need a bit of physio? Or pure rest? Sitting in an office chair all day probably does it no good. Your ma is right though, deep heat is deadly.
can you lie flat on the floor after work and especially after
eating. Also try to get a muscle relaxing injection from the doc. lie on the floor or a flat surface as much as you can this will only ease it out....work chair hell for backs....but in time you will forget until you do that thing that makes it come back again($)
would i not need a muscle relaxing injection every single night before i go to bed though? that would only be temporary relief for severe pain shortly after the injury surely?
im not really that sore after about the first hour in the morning or during the day much at all. it only goes pear shaped at night. i'll do the lie flat on the floor thing more though. i eat a lot so i might spend a lot of time horizontal.
who is this mysterious sage?
ice packs after work (or any strenuous activity), deep heat when you're not in pain - at least, that's the way it used to be for me.
stretches are recommended as well - are you on the yoga? get on it if not.
and stay away from chiro unless someone you trust gives you an absolutely GLOWING recommendation. trust me.
Live (back) Ache concert to raise funds (the awareness is already there) for Jill's physio/doc fees anyone?
well if the spasms are gone then its pain relief via ibuprofen and nurofen have these new patches out called 'heat patches' I see the adies on the tvs....nurofen.co.uk...
sage nah! just a similar back pain sufferer recently...picked up a cup of coffee off the table and bam....instant jab + 5 days on the floor
Well, MSF could do a benefit concert, but you'd probably leave before we went on to go home and blog about...i dunno...flowers, or the colour pink, or some other girlie nonsense.
heh. i'm in deep with this one...
*deep breath*
would MSF raise enough money for physio?
touché
well i NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what about a acupuncturist? That one on manor street did wonders for a niggly / fake back injury Paul had. (Yes, I know I'm a bad wife, doubting his pain) It was clear in a couple of sessions. And when it happened again, he went straight there and it got sorted amost immediately. Less extreme than a chiropractor but still, get a recommendation. If you let a random person stick needles in you, you might end up with another tattoo... your helpfully...
yeah, like she said...if you see "Dr. Scott Weiland, Acupuncture" on the door, run like hell - you don't need those needles.
Isn't Paula coming to visit in a few weeks. Surely its not too much to expect her to cancel all of her holiday and stay with you to be your personal physio for a few weeks.
Jamie was going to send you some panedine, which is his problem to all pains !
Hi Jill,
The whole sleeping on the floor thing can be solved anyway. The effect can be reproduced by getting a large sheet of pdf (is that what its called you know that wood that they use in changing rooms to do everything???) and placing it under your mattress. This at least means Mark doesnt get to the "get thee to the floor wench!" routine. My uncle who slept for years on the floor (lol- no joke, unfortunately these things can go on) really advocates the pdf under the mattress solution.
The other thing you should try aside from swimming is pilates. Pilates concentrates on the vertebrae (and is an excellent tummy workout - but I digress).
Good luck.
Margo.
i've looked into pilates! they said i just need to go down there and try out a class and see how my back is. so next wednesday it is. one of those things i've always meant to try, and now i really should - thanks for the suggestion
