so yeah, im back in TO. I have lots of photos from last week, but unfortunately due to van being towed and not collected til i was gone to the airport some of my stuff is still on tour, including the lead i need to xfer from camera to computer. New York was it's usual fabulous self, noisy & chaotic. I tried to buy Ella a birthday pressie in FAO Schwarz but their international shipping is stupidly expensive and i wasnt lugging heavy wooden things back to Toronto. I'll be going online for her so. I really enjoyed the Deerhoof show once I had convinced myself by about 4 songs in that I could handle the extreme heat and wasn't going to faint. I had to buy a teeshirt just so I had something clean and dry to put on. It was in this ridiculous low ceiling basement bar, probably designed for a max of 110 people, but holding 150. There's no stage, but not only was the band on the floor, but the floor sloped down lower where the band were and the singer is about 4ft 8inches so they were almost invisible from about 5 rows back! The Corpo show was great that night - the best i'd seen them all tour. And the label had their own people to do merch so my duties were taken over for that night. Mark and I went out to eat some delicious sangwiches from Moby's cafe/take out place 'Teany' which served 90 (90!) types of tea. I had no tea to my shame but I did have a vegan Turkey BLT.
Friday was a bit tired and emotional. Between the shittiness of spending so much money on the various van woes (not that i had to but it was still depressing) and every bit of public transport (inc. the flight) taking an interminably long time, it took me 9.5 hours to get door to door Brooklyn to Toronto. It's an hour flight. I could have got to Dublin in that time. I had a grand weekend, tried to get a good bit of exercise in to make up for 2 weeks in a van and service station food. Liam did his best to thwart that though by going to the baseball with me on saturday where I consumed beer and popcorn to undo all the good work. Jays lost. Of course - with me around they always do. Honestly I'm just willing this week to pass, its only been about 72 hours since I saw Mark and I miss him loads already. Hopefully he'll get back next saturday night, though it may be sunday night. Then I will lock him up and never let him go anywhere again. I'm looking forward to thursday though - an old college mate of mine, Sean, is getting married here on saturday and is having a pre-wedding party on thursday, so there is a few more college buddies over for that. Looking forward to that (and the only decent Guinness in the city by all accounts).
right. i'd better work out what the hell I should be doing now. what is this work lark anyway?

you'll be letting the boy out for practice and Thinkum gigs though, right? and recording? and pints?
When you're at Jays games, do you shout things about Jeyes Fluid?
eh no. i learned that 'ham n eggs' means double play though, and then shortly afterwards there were a couple of double plays but i couldnt' work out how to put ham n eggs in a coherent cheering type sentence and nor could liam.
you just yell 'hit' and stuff like that. in fact we had a discussion about the differences between UK/Ireland sports crowds and North American ones. There are a lot. D'Europeans are better i think, less advertising more spontaneous abuse of players spouses. At the baseball you do get to chant 'steroids, steroids' at some of the players that is fun.
is that so weird or are you taking the piss?
tofurkey
fake-bacon
veganaise.
all that good stuff.
fake bacon?
more like "true sacrilege"!
the one thing i don't understand is why veggies don't wanna completely distance themselves from us carnivores...why are veggie versions of meats called stuff like 'tofurkey" and "fake bacon"? why not make up new, non-meat-related words?
Jill - that's your project. get on it.
ok, I'm late getting in on this one, but Jill, you used to be a proper vegetarian who only had quorn occassionally, actually ate vegetables (except mushrooms) and scoffed at quorn sausages and burgers. What is it with all this fake meat stuff? You know in 10 yrs time you'll probably find out it all really did have meat in it...
i doubt it. i have a fake meat post coming up actually...
