Even Wikipedia's not that clear about it.
"The first official Canadian Thanksgiving Day was celebrated on April 5, 1872 in gratitude for the Prince of Wales' recovery from serious illness. The holiday was not officially recognized again till 1879, when parliament declared Thanksgiving to be an annual national secular holiday. The date was moved several times, finally being set on its current date (the second Monday in October) in 1957. For much of the period before 1957 parliament proclaimed the date annually."
It's like they just felt, ah sure we deserve another holiday day. And hell, why not? I have the day off I don't mind. Honestly though my favourite explanation so far I think is credited to Liam. If not, apologies but I'd take the credit - it's funny cos it's true
There's no parades, but there is turkeys and pumpkin and cranberry. I was a bit concerned earlier in the week that people wouldn't properly be able to celebrate a turkey-centric holiday with all this sun and heat and that class of thing in October, but ye gods have smiled down upon us: the temperature dropped 12 degrees from yesterday and it's pissing rain. That's more like it.
ps. my fingertips are hella sore today. that means I worked hard and played 3 different songs in their entirety last night!

Here, free holidays, sure you can't bate them. I myself am delighted with a mere weekend. TGIF was my mantra all day.
yep - fall's here, time to go shopping for one of those 'coat' things...
i bought my coat at the start of august - you have to buy as soon as you see in H&M, sure nothing ever stays in stock there. I'm willing the temperature to drop another few notches so I can try it out!
