Despite Damian's disparaging remarks, I wanted to see Death From Above 1979 (to give them their full title). However, as we took our seats at 730pm - doors at 7 - they were just finishing up. Prompt feckers in the ACC, that was so ridiculous. We had kinda planned at getting there for 8, then it turned out Queens of the Stone Age were on by 745. Madness, timely madness. Anyhoo, I wasn't blown away by Qotsa, which is a pity, cos I love them and their fine hulk of manhood Josh Homme (though I concede Fly has first dibs). It just didn't help the ACC is a big barn, with small floor space, and mostly seating - and it was only about a third full, probably due to the fact it was so bloody early. Anyway, the lovely Josh did his best, and gave out about the ACC being 'dry'. Damn right - that probably took away from the rockin too! Mark had assured me NIN would put on a good show...fuckin hell, they were deadly. I don't know too much NIN, all the classics though, but I love Trent Reznor's voice. And my god, it's amazing live too, it just cuts through everyone else. Apparantly last night was the fastest selling show on their world tour...so I think that might explain the treat of the 2 hour set. Holy mother of divine providence that was a lot of rock. I tell you what I didn't expect to hear: Hurt. He sang it, it was gorgeous. And their set was simple, but inventive, these ace LCD screens as a backdrop shaped like, well, teeth I suppose, but what looked like pixelated stalimites / tites, onto which was projected all sortsa crazy shit. Then for a few songs they dropped a gauzy curtain down over the stage and projected visuals, graphics, close ups of bugs, war, GWB, more bugs, while they played behind the curtain. Even though mark had told me it would be good, I didn't realise how much I would enjoy it.
Speaking of deadly rock shows...I must dash now and prepare myself physically and mentally to see Thinkum on their last ever show ever. If you're good and I have time I will post some snaps in the morning. Otherwise they'll be mixed in with pics of mojitos and dodgy bikini shots in a weeks time. Lucky yous.
PS. oh yeah I finished work today. Those people rock. One of the guy, Kong, bought me a green tea cake (yes green tea flavoured cake. ah chinatown you and your crazy bakeries) with Bon Voyage on it. So we got to eat cake this morning - always a good start to the day...
