Buzzin offa my bad self...

face-of-unemploymentThe face of unemployment.

So, back in T-dot since the weekend and no work yet. I'm now registered with SIX employment agencies, so if I can't get anything from them I really have to start looking at what I have done with my life up to this point. Hello all btw, it's been a while since my last post because I've been pretty busy. You'll have all heard about the tour from Jill so I won't bore you with much of that, just a quick highs and lows list:

HIGHS:

GRAHAM MACKEY. I don't think folk realise how difficult a job Graham had. Joss Moorkins is probably the best drummer in Dublin. This is not an exaggeration. He's incredible. Graham was stepping into very big shoes, and he totally pulled it off. Graham Mackey fucking rules.

Jill being on tour.

Touring in general. It's loads of fun. Free beer and food.

Gig wise - Atlanta, DC, NY, Boston, Cleveland, Kalamazoo, Chicago.

Meeting Steve, Jon, Donny, Laine and the Louisville posse and enjoying their unbelievable kindness and generosity.

Seeing the Pinback chaps and Kris again.

Seeing Dan Sullivan again.

Meeting aqueduct.

The Van.

LOWS:

gig wise - Asbury Park NJ, Baltimore.

Graham being really sick in DC (but still managing to ROCK NY!).

The long drives.

Being the first of three bands on a bill isn't great for selling merch.

The Tour paid for itself. This was basically down to Pinback giving us good money every night, Dan Sullivan Sorting out amps for Dudley and I, getting the van cheap from Flameshovel (The Corpo's old US label), my Dad getting Dudley a cheap flight to the US and people being kind enough to give there homes over to 4 smelly nomads. We owe a huge debt of thanks to all these people. The plan is to tour again at the end of August and start of September. Joss will be back rocking the next one. And I can't wait.

In the mean time I'm here contemplating my navel, and pondering unemployment. As I said to Mal this morning, I'm loving not working, I just don't like being out of work. On Tuesday I went out for a walk. The weather was fab and I really didn't feel bad about not having a job. I guess if I had a Job that engaged me in some way that would be different but its a pain when you know that the next job is going to be another badly paid temp position. For now I'll sit here hoping that the phone will ring but dreading it at the same time.
